What is Bullying?

Bullying is when one or more people do or say things on purpose to hurt someone. It usually happens more than once. It is a very unkind way of treating others. Bullying can cause a lot of harm!

 

There are 3 key features to bullying: 

POWER IMBALANCE

  • Differences in size
  • Differences in age
  • Differences in status
  • Differences in popularity
  • Many against one

INTENTION TO HURT

  • Not a case of accidental hurt
  • Not a case of play as victim
    is not not smiling or having fun

HAPPEN MORE THAN ONCE

  • It happens repetitively even after the victim has asked to stop

 

Who is involved? There are 3 groups of people involved in a bullying situation

the Victims, the Bullies and the Bystanders.

The person who is targeted

The person who is causing harm

The person who is the witness of an aggressive act.
